Floral designer Rashawn Scarbo knows how to make a statement. Her floral design company, Bloom Bold Co. curates floral installations and experiences across the Philadelphia area. From vibrant arrangements for Story Corps’s Brightness In Black event to dream bridal bouquets, Scarbo knows how to make flowers speak for the occasion.
So when it was time to exhibit for this year’s Philadelphia Flower Show, Scarbo was ready to make another statement. The theme for the 196th Flower Show is Gardens of Tomorrow, a chance for floral designers to envision what future gardens might look like or what “tomorrow” means to them. While this is Scarbo’s third year exhibiting at the Philadelphia Flower Show, this year’s show is her first year exhibiting solo.
While other designers took the opportunity to embrace futuristic takes or whimsical creations, Scarbo’s knack for making a statement blossomed into her design, “A Matter of Time.”
This exhibit, which features an unassembled clock engulfed by flowers and greenery, has a special, more timely (pun intended) meaning for Scarbo. “We have a deconstructed clock,” says Scarbo, “that represents the parallels between the passing of time and the importance of nurturing the next generation.” The design resonated, earning Scarbo a much deserved award.
