7 Non-Toxic Black-Owned Braiding Hair Brands

Y’all ever feel like “we can’t have nothing”? Because that is what the latest Consumer Report about braiding hair makes me feel like.

Y’all ever feel like “we can’t have nothing”? Because that is what the latest Consumer Report about braiding hair makes me feel like. Many products marketed to Black people have a history of toxins and dangers, but finding out that many popular braiding hair brands also contain cancer-causing toxins felt like a whole new betrayal.

It is a betrayal that is felt across the community. It’s a betrayal not just for braid wearers, but also braid stylists. Our elders wear these styles.. Our children wear these styles. We wear these styles. Our stylists spend hours crafting and perfecting these styles. Toxic hair puts all of us at risk.

Call it serendipitous or call it intuition, but several Black-owned braiding hair brands have emerged recently, the majority of which are non-toxic and even made from natural fibers such as banana leaves and other plants.

Whether you are getting fresh twists for that vacation or wear your braids all year long, here are a few Black-owned Non-Toxic brands to try for yourself.
